What I have learned
Through creating this blog about Ashley Olsen I have learned various things about our society and celebrities. First of all it has made me more of a cynic. When searching for information about Ms. Olsen it got me thinking about all the different elements of the machine that has helped her sell herself as a commodity. I read into each of her actions as part of selling a product, both herself and her clothing line, books, and movies. Blogging has also taught me how pathetic our society is, when there are so many important issues we can care about, but how much time and energy is spent on celebrity gossip. Overall, this process has been beneficial, it has made me more aware of the problem of celebrity gossip and hopefully I (as well as others) have educated ourselves and others about what being a celebrity really means and all the factors that go into making one.

I agree with you on the cynical comment. In blogging about Obama, I've come to approach much of the news I'm following with an eye for what's being crafted as a publicity stunt as opposed to what is actually a matter of substance. You commented on my blog and we spoke in class about the course presidential campaigns are taking in today's world -- how it's a media frenzy over the candidates' actions and tactics rather than political issues themselves. I'm torn, though, between whether my cynicism and attention to PR tactics comes more from the reality in the situation nowadays or my role as a blogger.
Although, as I have repeatedly said, blogging about an athlete is different than an actress, I agree with your synopsis of what this assisgnment has tauhgt me. If anything, someone like Tom needs just as much or more PR than someone like Olsen. Along with football PR, Tom also does TV shows and commercials; all which are chosen by his PR. I also agree with agata in the sense that I realize that we have indeed become part of the process of celebrity. Blogging has been the means of celebrity gossip for a while and blogging will continue to be the means for celebrity culture in the future.
